The cash took place around 2:50 p.m. Thursday on Middle Road in Rhinebeck when a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by James Krinitsky, 16, of Red Hook, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn, said Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Capt. John Watterson.
As a result of the rollover, the front passenger, Christopher Knapp, 16, also of Red Hook, suffered serious head injuries. Krinitsky and another passenger, Louis Lederer, 15, of Red Hook, suffered minor injuries, Watterson said.
All three were initially transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital for treatment, however, Knapp was later transferred to Westchester Medical Center where he remains at this time.
"At this time unsafe speed combined with lack of driving experience appears to be the primary factors in the crash," Watterson said.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.
